How to Book an Outstation Cab in Bihar Without Getting Cheated

27 September 2026  ·  Nitish Bhardwaj, RoadWays Cab  ·  7 min read

I run a cab service in Bihar. So when I tell you about how people get cheated while booking outstation cabs here, I'm not guessing — I've seen it happen, I've heard it from passengers who called us after a bad experience, and honestly, some of these tricks are so common they've become "normal."

This post is not a rant. It's a practical guide so that the next time you or someone in your family needs an outstation cab in Bihar, you know exactly what to watch for — and what questions to ask before you hand over a single rupee.

The most common ways passengers get cheated

1. "Advance lo, gaadi aayegi" — and then it doesn't

This is the most common one. You find a number on JustDial or in a WhatsApp group. You call, they quote a fare, ask for an advance via UPI, and then — either the driver never shows up, or they call back an hour before the trip saying "gaadi kharab ho gayi" or "driver nahi aaya."

Your money is gone. Getting it back is a headache. And you're scrambling to find a cab on the day of travel.

Red flag: Anyone who asks for advance before the driver or vehicle is confirmed — and cannot tell you the driver's name and car number right then — is someone you should not pay.

2. The fare changes when you reach the destination

You agreed on ₹2,500 Patna to Darbhanga. But when you reach, the driver says "toll alag tha, raat ka charge tha, extra luggage tha" — and suddenly it's ₹3,200. You're at your destination, your bags are in the car. What do you do?

Most people just pay. And that's exactly what the driver is counting on.

How to protect yourself: Before you get in the car, ask explicitly — "Kya yeh final fare hai? Toll, parking, night charge sab mila ke?" Get a WhatsApp confirmation with the agreed amount. A screenshot is your best friend.

3. The last-minute replacement trick

You booked a Dzire. On the day, they send an old Indica or a WagonR and say "Dzire available nahi tha, yeh le lo — same fare." You've already planned your day around this booking. You take it.

This is not just cheating — it's a safety issue. An old, poorly maintained car on a long highway route is a real risk.

4. "Operator" who doesn't actually have cars

Many people who list themselves as cab services on local directories don't own a single vehicle. They collect your booking, take the advance, then frantically call around trying to find a driver. If they can't, you get cancelled. If they do find someone, you have no idea who's coming.

5. Hidden charges on long-distance routes

Delhi to Patna, Ranchi to Gaya — on long routes, some operators quote a low base fare and then add "state entry tax", "night halt charge", "driver food allowance" and "return empty charge" at the end. The fare you thought was ₹10,000 ends up being ₹13,500.

What to ask upfront: "Is your quoted fare all-inclusive except toll and parking?" If they hesitate or add conditions, walk away.

What a trustworthy cab service looks like

After years in this business, here's what separates a genuine operator from someone who'll give you trouble:

The advance problem — and how we do it differently

Here's something we decided early on at RoadWays Cab: we only ask for advance when the car is physically at your door.

Not when you book. Not the night before. Not "when the driver starts from his location." When the driver reaches your pickup point and you can see the car with your own eyes — that's when we ask for a small UPI advance to confirm the booking.

Why? Because that's the only moment when both sides have skin in the game. You can see the car is real. The driver is there. The trip is actually happening. Asking for money before that point is, in our view, unfair to the passenger.

✓ RoadWays Cab policy: Advance only when the driver reaches your location. Until then, nothing is charged. If we can't send a car, you owe us nothing.

Checklist before booking any cab in Bihar

One more thing nobody talks about

In Bihar, a lot of outstation travel happens for emergencies — hospital trips, last-rites, family crises. These are exactly the moments when you're most vulnerable and least likely to negotiate carefully.

Predatory pricing in those moments is not just bad business — it's genuinely wrong. If a cab service is quoting you double the normal fare because you're in an emergency, that tells you everything you need to know about them.

A good cab service charges you the same whether you're going for a wedding or a funeral.
